Scale Review - November 2003
Kenn Stang represented well at the Nats this year with his impressive performance with his MAC 67 powered 1/8th Scale Hydro. It is appropriate that Ken Stang is the proud owner of the Miss US as he takes home top honors and the US - 1 title. Congratulations Ken your victory is well deserved.
Scale Review - September 2003
CMD Racing congratulates Henry Velasco from NAMBA's District 19 for winning their 2003 High Point Championship in Sport 60, and C Hydro!
The 1978 Squire Shop, driven by Henry Velasco, took top honors in Sport 60, and C Hydro class racing in NAMBA's District 19. The competition was fierce, but Henry's focus, driving skill, combined with the powerful, reliable MAC 67 engine put him in the winner's circle!
"Andy
In case you haven't heard... I won sport 60 and C hydro with my trouble free MAC 67 engines in NAMBA's District 19 heat racing. Thanks for all the help..."
Henry Velasco
Scale Review - July 2003
Miss US, driven by the lovely Nancy Moll, and maintained by her husband Gary Moll, was the focus of a spectacular finish on June 29, 2003. Her victory secured her a win for the day in 1/8th Scale Unlimited Hyrdoplane for the second time this season.
Nancy Moll is a member of NAMBA's District 9. Her Red and White Miss US is powered by a Mac 67 and her mechanic says that the engine has run fast, stable and reliable all year without going through plugs. Although Nancy started off the year leading the pack, she currently holds the 5th position where there is a mere 397 points separating 5th and 1st Place. Wow! That's some close racing!
Nancy maintains a high competitive spirit and excellent driving ability. She reminds some of us long time NAMBA boaters of such great lady drivers like Judi Hazlewood, Prigley and Bev Powers. She is known for riding the hip of her competitor, pressuring them from the outside, then stabbing to the inside to take the position.
Nancy wowed the crowd in her last district race by driving on the ragged edge. Alfred Lanza was in hot puruit with his Mac 67 followed by Troy Davis' Picco powered Smokin' Joes who rolled over succombing to the pressure of the "district fast time" pace. Nancy Moll held off Alfred Lanza for 6 laps crossing the finish line air born, turning a district fast time of 1:24 and some change. Lanza was so close behind her that he barely avoided their collision. The finish was spectacular and the spectators cheered with amazement.
CMDI takes a hat off to one of our ladies of racing, truly upholding the "Beauty of Speed."
Scale Review - February 2, 2003
It's 2003 and NAMBA's District 19 opened up the season with the first 1/8th Scale Unlimited and Unlimited Lights (Sport 40 II) regatta of the year. Among this region of fierce Southern California Scale competitors, include many past NAMBA National Champions and SAW record holders. The competition was stiff and the racing was spectacular.
CMD Racing was well represented by the presence of Henry Velasko, Alfred Lanza, Russel Starks and the performance of Roger Hooks, Jr. Roger continues his winning streak from last year with his third straight win using CMD products. Roger won the last race of the season in NAMBA District 9 (Northern California) in 60 Hydro then went on to win the District 9 versus District 19 Challenge race (Southern California) in the same class.
Once again Roger finishes on top with a close but undisputed win over the impressive speed of modified Picco's and CMB's, racing a Box Stock 'MAC Attack'.
Roger requested a MAC engine with some modifications in time for the race in Southern California. However, with the high demand for Andy Brown modified MAC engines, time ran out before Andy was able to complete a Killer MAC 67 for Roger's 1/8th Scale Charlie's Girl. In an attempt to get Roger into Sunday's big race, CMD shipped a brand new "off-the-shelf" stock engine overnight, as an alternative...Just In Time for the Race! The MAC Engine and the new Andy Brown 67 Pipe easily dropped into the place that a Picco and Mac Pipe called home for many seasons.
Roger, along with his team mates Alfred Lanza and Charles Ross, made the late night drive to Chino, Calif., arriving at the race site early in the morning with little or no sleep. Charles provided plenty of conversation for the trip to help keep everyone awake. In open water, the team made two short runs to give the new MAC a little break-in time.
Despite a lack of adequate sleep Roger performed excellently placing among the top three qualifiers for the main event. Roger nailed the start of the main event and never looked back. Roger says "The presence of super modified CMB's and Picco's was strong but I was determined to win. I executed my strategy and drove as hard as I could to hold on for the win." He also says, "I'd like to thank CMD Racing for coming through in a pinch."
CMD Congratulates Roger Hooks, Jr. once again, and just as Andy says, "It's nice to have a great driver on the team."
